Dinah
Hi, my name is Dinah and I can’t wait to meet you and your little bundle of joy! A little bit about me, I grew up in Berwyn Illinois but currently live in the Western Chicago suburb area. I graduated from St. Ambrose University in 2020. I have my bachelors in psychology and a minor in art therapy. I’ve worked in multiple daycares since 2017. I have a husband and a son who was born in 2023. I am in the process of becoming a certified doula through the DONA international program.
My Story
After graduating college, I started working as a preschool teacher. I loved creating lesson plans and working with children to help them learn and meet their developmental milestones. After four years, I was starting to burn out and lose my passion. Thankfully, the Lord had other plans for me and I became pregnant with my first son in 2023. Unfortunately, my husband wasn’t able to get paternity leave which left me doing all the night time care by myself. During this time, I was exhausted and had little to information on breastfeeding which led to having to stop after just one month of trying. This took a toll on my mental health as I desperately wanted to breastfeed. Although I had a great support system at home, I still felt alone and depressed. Since my job at the daycare wouldn’t provide any discount for my son, I was left looking for a new career that would now need to accommodate my families needs. This is when I came across postpartum doulas.
I was under the impressions doulas were used only for labor and delivery but when I found out you don’t have to be a full spectrum doula, I started my research on how to get certified. This is when I found my new passion of becoming a doula. Since starting the certification process, I have already learned so much. My postpartum recovery was rough because I didn’t have the necessary support at night or on lactation. My husband tried his best but he was also working early hours. We both were just surviving-I don’t want any other women to go through what I went through.
My goal as your postpartum doula is to make sure the whole family is being taken care of. By the time we finish our time together, you will have the knowledge and capability to conquer parenthood! I have chosen to help during nights because this was where I struggled the most. Sleep is absolutely necessary for both parents. Creating a consistent routine helps babies thrive. Allow me to help you and your family start a successful night time routine.
